Terms of use
Draft. These terms need legal review before launch. They describe how we intend the pilot to work, in plain words.
Who these terms are for
These terms cover teachers and schools using Notegrade during its free pilot. When we say “we”, we mean the people who build and run Notegrade. When we say “you”, we mean the teacher with a Notegrade account and the school they teach for.
Use Notegrade for school
Notegrade is for in-class writing and grading at a school. Use it with students you teach, for school work, and with your school’s permission where your school requires it. Do not use it to sell anything, to collect data for any other purpose, or to try to reach data that is not yours.
What teachers are responsible for
- Keeping your sign-in to yourself and telling us if you think someone else has used it.
- Adding only your own students to your rosters, with their school email addresses.
- Reviewing every draft score before you return grades. Notegrade drafts; you decide the grade.
- Treating the writing record as evidence for you to weigh, not as proof of anything.
- Removing student names before you paste any essay that is not part of a class into Notegrade, such as a calibration example.
Student data
Student data belongs to the school. We handle it as the privacy page describes, and as any data privacy agreement between Notegrade and the school says. If the two ever differ, the school’s agreement wins. We do not sell student data, show ads, or use student essays to train AI models.
The pilot is free
Notegrade costs nothing during the pilot. If that changes, we will tell you before any price takes effect, and you will not be charged unless you agree to it. See pricing.
No warranty
Notegrade is new, and we are still improving it. We provide it as it is, without promises that it will always be available, free of mistakes, or right in every draft score. Keep your own copy of grades that matter, for example with the gradebook export. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that come from using the pilot.
Ending your use
You can stop using Notegrade at any time, and you can delete your classes and students yourself. We can suspend an account that breaks these terms or puts student data at risk, and we will tell you why.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms as the pilot goes on. We will tell teachers about any important change before it takes effect, and the date at the top of this page will show the latest version.
