Easy for IT to approve. Easy for teachers to love.
NoteGrade gives your English department in-class essays that are the student’s own work, and grading that stays in the teacher’s hands. Here is what your privacy and technology teams will want to know.
Student privacy, built in from the first line.
The promises families and boards care about, kept by how NoteGrade works, not by a setting someone has to remember.
Designed for FERPA and COPPA
NoteGrade acts as a school official under your direction. Student records belong to your school, and we use them only to provide the service.
Never used to train AI
Student essays are never used to train AI models, ours or anyone else’s. No ads, and student data is never sold.
Stored in the United States
Essays, rosters and scores stay in the US, encrypted in storage and in transit.
Deleted when you ask
Teachers delete a student or class any time. Your district can have all of its data deleted, confirmed in writing.
Only the teacher sees the work
Each class is visible to its teacher and any co-teacher they add. Students see only their own returned essays.
Told within 72 hours
If student data is ever accessed without permission, affected schools hear from us within 72 hours of confirming it.
Three steps to a pilot.
-
Sign the data agreement
We sign the Student Data Privacy Consortium’s National DPA or your district’s own agreement. Read ours.
-
Approve student sign-in
Mark NoteGrade as trusted in Google Admin so students under 18 can use their school Google accounts. Students can also sign in with their school email instead.
-
Teachers start writing
Teachers create a free account, paste a roster, and run their first in-class essay the same day. We help the department set up and norm.
A fair answer to AI in writing.
Students write in class with AI tools and paste turned off, so the essay is their own. When something about how an essay was written stands out, teachers see the specifics, never a score or a verdict. Notes like these are never shown to students or families and never change a grade.
- Teachers decide every point. Drafts never reach a student on their own.
- Writing-record notes are evidence for a conversation, with their reasons.
- Each class can turn those notes off.
- Accommodations like dictation and extended time are respected, never held against a student.
